V - The ABC Reboot

Did any of you catch the series premiere of V on Tuesday night? I TiVo'd it and watched the first 30 minutes last night before I went out and unless the second 30 of the Pilot really comes alive I have to say the show didn't grab me in the way I wished it had. OK so I have rose-colored memories of the original 80's show which while never likely to win any awards was certainly a fun bit of sci-fi on the telly. The reboot that ABC has given us is of course a lot slicker but I wonder if it is going to generate that magical loyalty to maintain the numbers Tuesday's pilot enjoyed. The show grabbed 14.3 million viewers in it's first outing which these days is a number matched only by the likes of House and Grey's Anatomy.

I will watch the rest of the Pilot this weekend and probably keep a season pass to see how it develops in the hope we could have a successful sci-fi show on midweek primetime ... it's been a while.

  1. ehh, the second half doesn't get much better. Honestly they just tried to put way to much into the first hour of the show. They rushed and revealed way too much. They didn't leave any room for character development at all.

The original mini series actually had some pretty good characters and was a pretty decent morality play. I actually just watched the original miniseries for the first time last weekend when Syfy ran it. I really enjoyed it.

  2. Thanks for the review of the second 30 mins ... I will probably sit through it anyway. You plan to keep watching the show?

  3. I would say that if you watched the first half you might as well watch the second half. Some cool stuff did happen in the second half but it was just overly rushed. They could have spread that one episode out over 4 episodes and made it a lot better.

There is part of me that kind of wants to see if it'll get any better. I haven't decided if I will continue to watch it though. All depends on what else is on. It is on opposite So You Think You Can Dance and my girlfriend really loves that show.
