My First Exposure to Icelandic Cinema

Other than watching Bjork in Lars Von Trier's excellent Dancer in the Dark I have had little exposure to famous Icelandic actors or filmmakers so I was intrigued when I stumbled across the trailer for Mr. Bjarnfredarson.

Director Ragnar Bragason described new comedy recently to Twitch Film : "The over-educated know-it-all character of Georg Bjarnfreðarson first came to life in 2004 and I became haunted by his story. Georg is a son, a father and a communist megalomaniac with a chronic compulsion to control his environment, yet at the same time unable to control his own life. In other words, an inspiring protagonist with exciting possibilities."

It's always exciting when you discover a new director from a country whose cinema you have never experienced before and this is certainly one of those occasions. I imagine you will have a hard time finding this flick on the Big Screen so it may be a case of adding it to your Netflix list for when it gets a DVD release.

Anyway enough preamble from me here's the trailer.
