This is sad for all fans of the show but particularly for us Brits who saw Mollie Sugden as almost one of the family.

In Memoriam - Mollie Sugden
It's hard to believe but Mrs Slocombe is no longer with us. Aged 86 when she died last week the wonderful actress was best know for BBC's hilarious 1970's sitcom Are You Being Served. Sugden started her acting career on that other famous Seventies import from the UK The Benny Hill Show and while she acted in a number of different dramas and comedies over the years she will be remembered so fondly for the great TV character that was Mrs Betty Slocombe. The show was a great success at home and abroad running from 1973 to 1985 and her position in charge of the underwear section at Grace Brothers department store never changed.

Mrs Slocombe and her 'pussy' will be sadly missed! Amazing what British TV could get away with in the 70s...
