OK so this must be a record, 21 minutes into tonight's season premiere of Idol I have turned the TV off. Even the fact that the season opens in my hometown of Phoenix is not enough to keep me watching the same tired format. A fourth judge is irrelevant and trotting out the same tuneless characters with the occasional 'talent' is not enough to keep my attention I'm afraid.Let's be honest the signs weren't good last year. There were some absolute clangers in 2008's the final 12 including the quite dreadful Jason Castro and the winner David Cook was the most average Idol we have seen to date.
It will be interesting to see the ratings for this season. I am sure tonight's will do well but I can't be the only person whose interest waned last year and has decided to bail altogether. There's no getting away from it, the show is just so 7 years ago!
