Religulous - A Preview

This is a post that covers the Big and Small Screen as we look forward to the national opening of the Bill Maher movie Religulous which opened in New York on October 1st and opens nationwide on October 3rd.

Unsurprisingly the movie did well in New York grossing $13k on Wednesday from just two theaters. I hope we see similar results when it opens in 500 more theaters across the US on Friday as this is truly 'of the moment'. On Thursday we saw the US Vice Presidential debate where the Republican nominee holds truly extremist views and talks of 'tolerating' same sex unions (has anyone ever heard of acceptance instead of tolerance - would you like to be tolerated?).

To me Bill Maher is a voice in the puritanical darkness on the subject of religion in America and so this movie comes as something of a sequel to his excellent HBO show Real Time with Bill Maher. I am sure there will be less than subtle messages in the flick but the overall key point needs to be made in this election year, this is not a time for extreme religious views.

I hope people with any amount of intellectual curiosity go and see this movie, America needs someone to voice the alternative to the 700 Club world view ... Thank you Bill Maher.
