Jude Law ... Elementary My Dear Watson!

According to Variety Jude Law is in the frame to play Dr Watson to Robert Downey Junior's Holmes for Guy Ritchie's 2010 Sherlock Holmes caper. This Warner Bros flick will incorporate various stories from author Sir Authur Conan Doyle and is being produced by Joel Silver who worked with Ritchie on the soon to be released Rock N Rolla.

Jude Law can act. This will come as no surprise to most of you but can he always pick the right movies? He has a spotty record in script selection in my book having given excellent performances in The Talented Mr Ripley and Closer but then appearing in the dreadfulness that was The Holiday and Alfie (should have been left well alone that one!).

Law was born in Lewisham, S.E London only 2 miles from Blackheath where Watson was a member of the local Rugby club according to the Conan Doyle short story The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire. Interestingly in at age 19 Law appeared in the Granada TV show The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes although I have a feeling this wasn't why he was selected!
