In Treatment

Did anybody like this show?

I was amazed ... after Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiam, Entourage etc I welcomed any new show that the network threw onto my small screen but In Treatment was just such a dud. I wasn't at all excited by the premise of 30 minute episodes of therapy dished out to various, what was almost guaranteed to be, rich yuppies (is that word still in use?) but casting Gabriel Byrne as psychotherapist Paul Weston made me give it a shot.

What a yawn the whole thing was. I struggled through two or three of the therapy sessions, made the requisite joke about needing therapy myself after watching the show and then vowed never to return.

The reason I am yakking about it is that Diane Weist, who is one of my favorite actors after her hysterical performance as Helen 'Don't Speak' Sinclair in Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway, won an Emmy this year for best supporting actress! I guess it goes to show a great performance from a great actor can give the dullest of shows a little shine.

The show got renewed for a second season in June so set your Tivos for whatever else is on!
