ER Returns ...For The Last Time

September 25th marks the return of one of my oldest TV friends, ER. This show, which is the most Emmy nominated show in history by the way, premiered in September of 1994 which seems like another lifetime ago. George Clooney's star has shone the brightest of the many ER alumni going from Doug Ross to Batman to Danny Ocean. We have seen Julianna Margulies pop up in the final season of The Sopranos and of course who can forget the excellent casting of Mekhi Phifer as Larry David's Lawyer in Curb Your Enthusiasm. However one has to wonder just what became of the seemingly capable acting skills of Anthony Edwards (Goose!), Noah Wyle and Laura Innes.

The show continues to entertain even if every season finale has to outdo the last one with various explosions and 'are they or aren't they?' death scenes. I guess it really is a prime time soap but the acting and writing are such that it isn't hard to remain loyal. The tradition of guest actors is a great part of what makes up the show with John Leguizamo, Ray Liotta, Sally Field, James Woods, Don Cheadle, Forest Whitaker, Kirsten Dunst, Ewan McGregor, Shia LaBeouf, Dakota Fanning, Ed Asner, Thandie Newton, Cynthia Nixon, Steve Buscemi, Stanley Tucci and Alan Alder making memorable appearences over the years.

So order a CAT scan, Chem 7, Lytes, don't go into V-fib or V-tach (unless the episode is really good!) and whatever other medical mumbo jumbo you want and settle in for your last winter with the Chicago docs.
